REGULATION 2024
Learn more about the IRON GRAVEL values and our regulations to enjoy a unique experience in your edition.
These regulations explain and develop the conditions of participation and characteristics of the IRON GRAVEL Busot event that will take place on the 25th of May 2024, in Busot, Alicante.
The completion of the registration implies acceptance of these rules and authorization of the cancellation policy and modification of the registration of the event.
Regardless of the information in these regulations, all technical aspects can be found on the official website of the event and in the RUNNER’S GUIDE that will be sent to all registered runners.
The proposed format is NON COMPETITIVE. It is not a race, nor a walk. It is a personal challenge, where each participant is obliged to respect at all times the Road Safety Law and the General Traffic Regulations in force in Spain, as well as any other regulations in force along the route planned by the Organization and at no time has special priority over other road users along the route. The road safety to be carried out during the race is described in article 7 of these regulations.
There are no BADGES, but it will be compulsory to comply with the identification elements of the participants, for their safety and for the good development of the same, which consist of Stickers for the bicycle and for the helmet, personal and non-transferable identification for the participant and his bicycle. Each participant will also carry a tracker or geolocator delivered in the runner’s bag with a deposit of 50 euros, refundable at the end of the event and after the return of the same.
There is a timing system and cut-off times. These cut-off times, placed at the control points, PC, by the Organization, will be more than enough so that all participants, regardless of their level, can enjoy the race with the minimum physical condition necessary to face these distances with a significant slope.
The cut-off times must be respected by the participants for their own safety and for the safety of the race. In the event of failure to comply with this timetable, the participant may either continue on their own without the support or responsibility of the Organiser, or may choose the shortest or easiest route back to Alicante. The cut-off times will be published in the Runner’s Dossier published and announced on the official website.
In the case of abandonment due to a breakdown that makes it impossible for the participant to run, the Organization cannot be held responsible for the collection of the participant.
In the case of abandonment or withdrawal, the participant will do so as a priority at one of the checkpoints and informing the organisation of his withdrawal.
Type of BIKE. This event has been designed for Gravel type bicycles due to its route and format. However, the use of any type of bicycle capable of off-road riding is permitted.
The presence of e-bike versions is not contemplated in these regulations. If there is a considerable demand for e-bikes, the organisers will assess and manage their presence.
The itinerary covers mountain terrain, roads, paths, tracks and some trails; each participant must be fully aware of the length and difficulty of the event, which may take place partly at night, under possible adverse weather conditions of extreme heat or cold, rain, wind. He/she must therefore make sure that his/her clothing and physical conditions are the most appropriate for the event.
There is no signposting of the route. The race will be carried out by GPS following a track provided by the organisers. It will be compulsory to follow the itinerary marked by the track. The official and definitive Track will be sent to each participant in the weeks prior to the date of the event. GPS, mobile phone and auxiliary battery are compulsory. You can and should consult the technical specifications of the event in its three distances, 180, 110 and 55 kms.
The start will be at 6:00 am for the Long of 180 kms. At 9:00 am for the 110 km Short and at 10:00 am for the 55 km Sprint. The latest finishing time is 20:30.
After the start, the group will ride at a neutralised pace and escorted by members of the organisation and the Local Police for the first few kilometres, until they reach the junction to the track of the first climb of the Espino.
Compulsory lights. Due to the timetable of the start and the need to ride safely, it is compulsory to carry lights, front and rear.
In the event of abandonment, the organisation’s staff must be informed as soon as possible, either at one of the check points or by calling the telephone number provided by the organisation.
The organisers may suspend the race if the weather conditions make it advisable or for other reasons of force majeure. In this case, registration fees will not be refunded.
The race will take place in a maximum time, in a single stage and in a semi-self-sufficiency regime. For this reason, each participant must be able to organise and guide their own survival between the different control points, both from a nutritional point of view and in terms of clothing and safety.
As support, the organisation will have several checkpoints, which will have drinks and food in the quantities deemed reasonable given the registration of the event in semi-self-sufficiency. Their locations and details will be specified in the participant’s guide.
It is the obligation of each participant to take any waste to these points indicated by the organisation or to the finish line.
The event is open to all athletes over 18 years of age on the day of the event. The registered participants confirm that they are fully informed of the format and characteristics of the event and are aware of the length, difficulty and physical demands of the race. They confirm that they have the necessary knowledge, experience, equipment, physical and psychological level to face and overcome possible problems related to the demands of a long distance non-stop event.
The participants take part in the event on a voluntary basis and under their own responsibility. For this reason, the organising entity and company, the municipality, the collaborators and employees, the sponsors and the other participants are released from any civil liability.
By registering, participants automatically accept the “disclaimer and certificate of fitness” which informs them of the risks involved in participation and excludes the organisation in the event of any incident or accident arising from their participation.
Participants must prioritise ethics, companionship, respect for the environment and the environment above the event.
In case of emergency, participants must call one of the telephone numbers indicated on the technical sheet, exclusively emergency numbers.
The overall number of participants is limited to a number that will be determined and displayed at the time of the opening of registration. For obvious safety reasons and due to the natural environment in which the race takes place, the number of participants is limited.
In order to collect the runner’s bag with the race bib, it will be essential that the participant identifies himself/herself by means of an identification document, ID card, passport or federation licence.
The registration period will open on 5 February 2024 and will end on 19 May 2024 or, failing that, when the maximum number of participants is reached. Registration can be made through the official website of the site (www.irongravel.com) redirected to the Rockthesport registration platform.
